This Eastern U.S. native is a wonderful long-lived perennial. Indigo-blue flowers are held erect atop 4' tall shrub-like plants. If grown in full sun no staking is required. The black seedpods are great in dried arrangements. A bit of a slow grower but well worth the wait. Easily grown in low-fertility soils. Voted the 2010 Perennial Plant Association Plant of the Year!

Baptisia ‘Carolina Moonlight’

‘Carolina Moonlight’ is a cross between B. alba and B. sphaerocarpa. This selection gives you some of the height of B. alba and the flower color of B. sphaerocarpa. The flower spikes are a creamy-yellow and reach 3’. The foliage is an attractive bluish-green and plants bloom during summer. This is a long blooming variety requiring full sun to part sun and average, well-drained garden soils. Reportedly deer resistant. This perennial would work well as a middle of the border plant and in a wildflower garden.

This is the first introduction from the Chicago Botanic Gardens Baptisia breeding program. This is a cross between B. australis and B. sphaerocarpa. The resulting selection possesses exceptional hybrid vigor, especially with its heavy flower show. It will take 2-3 years in the ground for it to reach its peak performance. Deep violet-purple flowers bloom in summer for many weeks. It grows to 4-5’, needs full sun to part sun, and well-drained average garden soils. Makes a great addition to the mixed perennial border or wildflower garden.

Bergenia ‘Bressingham Ruby’ (PP7344)

These cabbage looking plants have bright pink flowers in Early season but are grown primarily for their leathery foliage. This cultivar has deep green foliage, which turns a beautiful ruby color in cool weather and holds that color all winter long. Grows to 18" tall and is most effective in the landscape if used in mass. Grows best in part-shade. A Blooms of Bressingham introduction.
